About Us

Mountain Emergency Physicians (MEP) is an independent practice located in Western North Carolina. Founded in 1980 by Dr. Rainer McGuire, our practice initially provided physician coverage for the Emergency Department at Caldwell Memorial, now known as UNC Health Caldwell. Driven by a commitment to excellence, the practice quickly expanded from serving one hospital to two and has continued to grow ever since.
Today, MEP serves hospitals in Caldwell, Catawba, and Iredell counties, specializing in emergency and acute care medicine. Over the years, we have built strong relationships with our patients and the local community, earning a reputation for trust, quality, and integrity.
